a noble effort

ReactOS team has a noble cause at hand – liberating the world from Windows.

Sort of relief for the guys who are tired of windows, but still dependent on a plethora of applications that are only available on Windows.

ReactOS invested dozens of years in creating the basic framework. I really hope getting something better in store for me pretty soon, because I badly want to throw current computer OS of mine (a windows version, doesn’t matter which one: they all SUCK) into dustbin if a working alternative is available.

Initial screen-shots after running it over my Virtual Box:

Desktop

Control Panel

Their screenshots look more promising, so I need to tests a few complex windows applications on this OS and share the results. keep watching this space.

make your choice – sustainable development or fat increments

Having received my salary review letter, I am again amazed at ever increasing salaries, profits, sales, inflation and of course ever decreasing (so-to-say) cost and wastage.

A few recent examples: one, two, three and four.

Is it possible to increase the profits and sales year-on-year, forever? Is there no end to this madness?

Every time some organization is busy presenting its “stronger than ever margins” or “stretched cost savings” or “robust sales growth” to us, I find it difficult resisting myself from asking the above question.

The rate at which we are wasting our resources, human race will not take much time reaching a dead-end where there is no possibility of further addition to the pace of development and to the nature’s exploitation.

Nice to see that Indian Government is doing many things in area of sustainable development. I just hope these much needed steps are a result of a call from within, not from west.

twitter ke side effects

Shashi Tharoor is known as a high profile diplomat, having an international image. But the Indian political ecosystem has proved it again: does not matter who you are, you need to have the art of permutation, articulation, negotiation, and a false display of innocence in order to stay in groove and to prosper (Did you say Lalu?).

It now turns out he is not a match for the Indian politics. His irritating (read twitting and lately, romancing) habits have added more salt to the injury.

An unexpected and unanticipated neighbor has surprisingly thrusted his very own dish at his table, when Lalit Modi disclosed Sunanda episode through twitter.

Is twitter finally going to take its toll on the poor minister? Only time will tell, but odds are high.

from the horse’s mouth

Linux has been a buzzword since its creation.

We love it because of the freedom, we love it for lesser viruses, we hate it for dearth of application programs, and a big lot of nerds is confused and spoiled by so many distributions available.

Between all this, are you curious what Linus Torvalds has to think about today’s situation of Linux?

From the horse’s mouth here.

BTW, Linus has a personal blog too, here.

Don’t expect him dumping a lot of kernel and driver stuff this time, this is his personal blog, where he shares other facets of his life.

Kill Bill Gates

y! still independent??

While Jerry Yang paid a heavy price for his stubborn attitude resulting in failed negotiations with Microsoft, Carol Bartz is going over the top, trying to send message that Yahoo means business, when she was more than instrumental in shutting down services like Geocities, Briefcase, Go etc.

Balmer is happy making Yahoo realize they missed the bus. But can’t this bus take another U-Turn and come back? Seems inevitable.
